Ha! No, none of this scares me. I just need to get the connectors here and make the cable. Everything is ordered and on its way.

After searching around I found update 863. At least that I what I assume based on the first entry in the Verbesserungen.txt file. My current system is build 751, so it sounds a bit old

Version 867 is a bug-fix of 863. But the bug concerns only a detail of the ASCII communication mode.

Success! (I think). I got the parts today, built the cable and updated all the i-Telex boards. I figured I would do them all. I did not update the ethernet board yet, I will do that later.

The serial board now reports konfiguration seriell+speicher version 334 d

I can now see the messages. My problem is resolved.

I see there are new options

Ctrl-L: Lokalbetrieb
Ctrl-T: Statusliste

And new configuration options:
weiterleitungen abweisen? I am not sure why I would reject forwarding. Does this mean forwarding from another module to the serial module? I replied n

hardware handshake auf serieller schnittstelle verwenden? I guess it is an option now. I replied j

hauptmenue regelmaessig ausgeben? I see what this does, but I do not understand really. It showed the menu three or four times in a row when I said yes to the configuration option, so I redid the configuration and said no to this option

Lokalbetrieb seems to be useless, but was invented on Johannes' request for his JTerm.
Statusliste provides a list of connected modules, ist almost the same as the ethernet board's "list of modules" menu item.

The setting "Yes" may be helpful if somebody has more then one serial boards and wants to collect all redirected messages on one board.

As long as "yes" works fine, use yes.

With "no" the menu list is printed only in case of a wrong selection. With "yes" always as a "prompt".
