I called in three times. The first, nobody was there. The second was someone trying to type in figs mode so it was gibberish. The third time was the charm and I had a nice conversation. Reinhold answered and then turned it over to someone. They were using a T100S which is a great machine for a novice.

Hi Paul,

it was so busy that day in Paderborn, that often we simply had no time to answer.
Also often visitors sat at one of the four TTYs. They probably typed the strange words in.

It was not an inconvenience at all, Michael! As I said, it was fun to be a part of it and I eventually had a long and very nice session with a young person. I would like to do this again some time.
